OVERVIEW
Alabama is overwhelmingly rural. The Alabama Rural Health Association recognizes all 67 of Alabama's counties as containing rural areas, and according to the 2010 U.S. census, almost 96% of the land area and 41% of the population is classified as rural. This poses many difficulties for the state as there are unique complications that affect the non-urban regions of the United States.
Over the course a semester, students on the STEM and CREATE Path to the MBA will work in teams to develop a rural Alabama focused innovation project. The projects will be divided in four main topics and the specific issues affecting each one: Education, Water and Sanitation, Healthcare, and Food Deserts. This database contains a short overview for each topic as well as websites, PDF articles, and interview footage from experts in each field. In addition to this database, the STEM & CREATE Path will host a variety of expert speakers as additional resources. Click here to see the 2018 speaker series. |
